Job Title: Communications Director 

Reports to: Executive Pastor

Department: Creative Team 

Job Grade: Full Time

 

POSITION OVERVIEW 

● Consistently articulates the church’s vision and mission 

● Develops, guides, and implements the strategy for the church’s brand and all communication media including social media, the website, publications, signage, marketing, app, media and advertising. 

● Works with Riverside’s leadership and staff as a communications partner on all strategic initiatives and programs 

 

ACCOUNTABILITY 

The Communications Director is accountable to and reports directly to the Executive Pastor. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Leads, develops, manages, and guards the brand, preserving and promoting Riverside’s image and vision locally, nationally, and globally 

2. Develops, creates awareness of, implements, measures, and evaluates an annual communication marketing plan across specific audiences in collaboration with the church’s ministry and 

leadership teams and other constituencies 

3. Leads the timely generation, discernment, and dissemination of all print, digital, video, social, and other media in a timely manner, ensuring that strategic goals are carried out, leading to measurable results that advance the mission and goals of the church 

4. Provides or oversees the design, layout, writing, editing, production, and quality control of the ongoing media, print and digital pieces within Riverside Church and its individual ministries and consults 

with individual ministries on any media pieces produced (as needed) 

Examples: Pre-service announcement slides, website updates, electronic newsletters, email blasts, promotional posters and flyers, banners, supplemental worship materials, indoor and outdoor signage, seasonal worship and promotional materials, miscellaneous printed material and projects (i.e. stationery and business cards) 

5. Coordinates website and social media content creation, 

maintenance and enhancements, ensuring that new and 

consistent information are posted and evaluated regularly 

6. Works in conjunction with the AVL Director to schedule and produce videos, media for the RiversideSWFL app and website, and online campus elements 

7. Lead the volunteer team in the creation, preparation, and distribution of requested administrative tasks 

8. Manage and respond to inquiries from the website, as needed, to ensure people receive a timely response and/or issues are 

addressed in a timely manner 

9. Perform other duties as assigned 

 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS 

● Cares about how Riverside’s vision translates to people inside and outside of the church 

● 3–5 years of experience in communications and marketing; local church experience is a plus — bachelor’s degree with communications, advertising, social media, or marketing preferred 

● Have excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, including a command of the English language, proper style, usage and punctuation 

● Strong visual sense and ability to direct freelance artists, production, and technology partners in print, web, social media, and video

● Commitment to work collaboratively with staff, Elders and volunteers

● Ability to plan, organize, and multitask in a deadline intensive environment and ability to give attention to detail and accuracy

● Must be an entrepreneurial self-starter who sees the big picture, is highly organized, able to work independently, and able to work well with people at all levels in the organization. Strong presentation and interpersonal skills preferred 

● Capabilities and skills in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat, WordPress, and web/electronic and digital media design and development applications, email marketing systems, and/or other appropriate software preferred 

● Assists with the development and management of the budget related to communications line items. 

● Works well in a team envrionment
